Dear Reader,
Leading up to the presidential election later this year, we are “slicing & dicing” The Think Table into three big themes: America’s DNA, Humanity, and Policy. We wrapped up the previous issue on America’s DNA where we looked at the role of Immigrants on American food and language (hint – almost all of it). Now, we turn to the people. The human stories behind the harsh politics. We begin with a big topic – Dreamers.
74% of Americans favor a law that would provide permanent legal status to immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children. But even with bipartisan support, we have always fallen short of enough votes to pass legislation. Even the executive “band aid” DACA is under threat. Why? In this issue, we lay out who is considered a “DREAMer”, what are the actual policies that people throw around, and why it matters.
